aredblush: (disney : Flower : hi)
Hey lovelies! Have you survived the Christmas madness? We had Christmas on the 23rd this year 'cause the parents decided to go away for the weekend (so my childhood wish of opening the presents early finally got granted \o/ I only had to wait 20 years...) Also, thank you for all the cards and pressies! You are all awesome and I wish I could group hug all of you right now! <3333

Anyway, I know you're probably all holiday-ed out, but I have awesome things to link to, so bear with me, yeah?

Thing the 1st: [livejournal.com profile] mfac was a complete joy this year too and if you haven't had the time to check it out before, I urge you to do so now because every door was chockfull of delightful fandom stuff! [livejournal.com profile] saba1789 was the best host ever and allowed me again to participate to the calendar. This year I decided to go the multifandom way, because 2011 has been the year I fell in love with all the fandoms that crossed my path. You can find the drawing here, but really, you should check out all the entries!

Thing the 2nd: dear [livejournal.com profile] sarahyyy wrote me the most adorable Ariadne/Yusuf ficlet :3 Go read Tea for Two and be charmed!

Thing the 3rd: OMG, you guys! I received two awesome mixes from my Santa person over at [livejournal.com profile] tsnsecretsanta :D I have been listening to them all day long and I keep bouncing in my seat and you should really check them out and shower [livejournal.com profile] thatsapplejack in praise and love!

Thing the 4th: COME PLAY OVER AT [community profile] grimm_kink! We have vintage props pretty violinists him! :D

Thing the 5th: seeing as lj is on a mean track lately, you might want to consider backing up your journals on Dreamwidth. I've been crossposting since the last lj fail and while dW is not as shiny as lj (used) to be, it's still a lovely place to go play and you won't need an invite code to create an account until New Year's Eve (and if you'll need one later, I should have some to hand out :)).

And on a not-very-awesome note, I haven't been able to mail some cards yet because I fail at time management, but don't despair! I'm setting up camp in front of the post office tomorrow!
aredblush: (stock : walk)
First off, happy belated birthday to all the November bbs! I went kinda MIA and wasn't able to make you bday cards on your actual birthdays (I'll forever be sorry about that :((() but I'm totally willing to make it up to you right now(ish) so if you want you can leave a doodle request in the comment and I'll deliver asap!

Stuff I've done since the last update (here be a list that you can totally skip) )

And now let me point you in the direction of awesome stuff!

December is here and fandom is the place where to get your holiday cheer! If you haven't already, please go and get your stocking filled (and pour some love in other's people stockings) over at glomp_gifts! Also, [livejournal.com profile] mfac is back this year! Come count down the days to Christmas and enjoy a different fandom everyday :D The first door is already open!

Also, there's a Three Sentence Ficathon going on! All the pocket-sized fics your heart desires! Run don't walk!
aredblush: (music : mika : hand)
Two post in three days and I feel like I'm spamming you all with my nonsense, but bear with me, please, I have awesome recs for you!

The second wave of [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang is in full swinging and yesterday the story I drew fanart for went up! Don't Drink the Water by [personal profile] cloudlessclimes is an amazing story about Spencer the grumpy fish scientist (yes! Now you know what all my fish-related drawing woes were about!) and his wading the waters of life as a researcher towards happiness. This story's so lovely and I reccomend everyone to click on the link and go check it out.

Remeber that icon meme I did a few days ago? Well, [livejournal.com profile] sarahyyy wanted to play and I asked her to tell me about her Tangled icon and she said something about wanting to write tangled fic but never getting around to do it and so I said "WRITE IT NOW!" and what d'you know, she did! In Love for a While, run don't walk!

In case you were not aware, [livejournal.com profile] thesocialbbang has been showering my friend page in sparkly joy for a couple of days. I've been bookmarking everything because free time hasn't been on the menu this past week, but I managed to read one the other day: Draw Me A Map by [livejournal.com profile] fairy_tale_echo. I keep going back to it so I thought I'd rec it here (and then we can spazz all together about the sheer brilliance that is correspondence!fic, Y/Y/MFY?)

In Real Life news, my old medications weren't working anymore so I had to change them with something stronger :/ I'm not particularly fond of this new one, but it seems to be doing its job so far... If I suddenly start spewing stupid(er) crap around here, I'm blaming it. Also, to cheer myself up, I bought a mammoth book of fairytales. The best thing about it is that among the usual ones, it also features classic fairytales written by women :) I don't know when I'll have the time to read them all, but it's something nice to look forward to, no?

A phone conversation I had this morning with my mum:

(note that everything my mum said was delivered at an earsplitting volume because she has yet to grasp the notion that cell phones are not valleys)

*phone rings*
Me: Hello?
Mum: Baby! Guess where we are! Cesena :D
Me: Oh, hey mum :)
Mum: No no, listen! Dad and I went to see the market and then we went to get a cappuccino!
Me: *is suspicious of the emphasis* Uh, that's good. Did you like the-
Mum: no no, you don't understand! We went to get cappuccinos! And then we didn't drink them! Ah ah ah :D
Me: .... what?
Mum: We walked up to the counter, ordered two cappuccinos, took forever to pick pastries and then we told them we wanted them at the table outside and then we left!
Me: You mean you did an eat-and-run? MUM!
Mum: No! We just didn't stick around long enough for the guy to bring the stuff at the table!
Me: *laughing* wow, you are getting old if you just forget about the order you just placed!
Mum: yeah, whatever! *chortles* hear this! We have just decided that we are going to go back there later this afternoon and sit at the table and then scold the waiters because "we've been waiting for these fucking cappucinos all day!" :D

My troll parents, ladies and gentlemen.

In other news, here's a meme I got from [livejournal.com profile] saba1789:D

1. Reply to this post with "LICK ME" (or any other explicit form of consent), and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

So, one of my aunts up and went on vacation and asked me to cover her shifts at my mum's shop. WHY DID I SAY "OF COURSE, DEAR AUNT, DON'T YOU WORRY, I'LL TAKE CARE OF IT!". WHAT THE SHEEP WAS I THINKING? I am so tired, you guys /o\ I spent the mornings giving info on wigs and making appointment and taking calls and and and. Never again, flist. Never again.

Also, I found yesterday night/this morning that I'm due to post my reversebang piece on the first day of the fest. This is tragic in many ways, particularly the one where I AM POSTING ON THE FIRST DAY. ON A COMMUNITY. Why did I think signing up was a good idea? I'm blaming [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing.

Also also, on a TMI note, why must waxing hurt so much? Why?

Anyway, DOODLE TIME. Two quick doodles I did during my lunchbreak!

[livejournal.com profile] laria_gwyn got into a bit of road trouble the other day and she was feeling down and so I pfered to doodle her something quick. These mofos write their own road rules! )

This morning Ryan Ross used his twitter and tried to make me coo over his adorableness once again. I may have or may have not capitulated under his ruthless attack, but that is not important. What is important is that I had the sudden urge to draw Ryan as a faily spy (because we all know he would be the failiest spy ever) and then the Cult of the Yodel ganged up on me and we all know how this story ends. )

Oh, and speaking of doodles. I've seen this "fic commentary meme" around, but where is the "fanart commentary meme"? I want to know things about people's art, too! :(

Today was supposed to be awesome and amazing and all things shiny because I was asked to paint on a wall (I love drawing on big surfaces) but my excitement for this task was ruined in the span of 15 minutes thanks to hate rant delivered by my bff's mum after she asked me what was that I posted on my facebook status and I explained about today being NCOD. I'm not going to repeat what she said because just thinking about it makes the bile rise again in my throat and it was hard to swallow it down the first time around. Point is, she managed to turn me into a sad and angry little thing; when I am a sad-and-angry-little-thing I tend to think the world is doomed and people are horrible and I forget that not everybody is so hateful and offensive and rude. Luckily, mum and L let me get it out of my system and then we all flailed angrily together about people's blindness and their close-mindedness. This FCKH8 video (NSFW! Heavy use of the F word!) also made me feel slightly better. Speaking of f*** hate, you should also go and check out this

The "I admire you because..." Meme

because [livejournal.com profile] ohohstarryeyed is right, everyone could do with being told why they're awesome, and I could do with seeing people love on other people and proove that the world is not doomed and people are beautiful, loving, caring beings. Click on the link, leave your name, spread the love.

And just because I need to get my brain to just shut down for a while, a meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing and modified to suit me better

Give me a character/pairing and a word, and I will writedraw you one sentence of ficquick doodle.

Your eyes are not deceiving you! This is a real update! Or something like that.

Random things in an even more random order! A-hem.

o1. Autumn is here! Woo! I can't wait for the air to get a little bit chillier so I can start wearing my lovely hats and skarves. Also, dry leaves! Rosted chestnuts! Hot chocolate! KNITTING! :DDD

02. Went to see Inception again today, this time with the family. It is even better the second time around! <333 While we were coming back home I asked mum what was her favourite character. It went like this: )

o3. Let's talk about Glee! Two episodes in the new season and Rachel continues to be my least favourite character. Why is she so stupidly blind? Did they actually made her even more irritating? Also, where did that blond kid from the first ep end up? I really like how he sings, can we have him back asap?

o4. My pile of books-to-read keeps getting higher. This is not really relevant to your interest, but it is to mine because it's positioned in front of my alarm clock and it's now high enough to cover the clock face. I wake up in the morning and I don't know what the time is, only that as soon as I finish Empire of Ivory I'll have to tackle Watership Down because it is thicker than Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. My strategy, let me tell you about it!

o5. Watched RocknRolla. Twice. HI, MOVIE MADE OF MAGIC! WHERE THE F IS THE SEQUEL? Furthermore, where is the FIC? *presses play again*

o6. Mum and dad, while walking Milla, stumbled upon a litter of, and I quote, "the most adorable little kittens ever! You'd love them so much, N!". Mum followed me around the house telling me that "There is a black one with green-green eyes! It practically screams your name, N!" and dad was all "you should come with us next time so you can bring him food!" and mum chimed in with "yes! So you can pet him and see if you like each other" and at this point my heart was just ready explode with all the hope they were stuffing in it so, of course, that's when they both looked at me and said "it's just such a shame that you can't bring him home because you're the only one who like cats". Sometimes, I think they do it on purpose to make me suffer.

o7. Can someone tell me to NOT sign up for yuletart? Thanks.

Reason I love my family #87134872356: we don't plan vacations, we just up and go!
We are leaving tomorrow morning for 5 (maybe more, maybe less) days of camping at the beach :) Hopefully, I'll manage to get my skin to look darker than the mozzarella-hue it's sporting now...
I should be able to check my email and twitter, so I'll somewhat be around anyway, but if something exciting happens (like, release dates are announced, people accidentally confess their undying love for their bandmate/collegue/whathaveyou, your morning tea is especially delicious) do send me a quick message! I can run into the water and flail there and nobody would think it weird :D

Guess who's going to see Owl City in London on May 9th? ME! AHAHAHAH! My sister is the best sister everrrrrrr TRUFAX! This will be our first show together so I'm even more excited :DDD

In other news my last exams is on Monday and then I'll be free to draw all those things you requested in that meme way back.

So, how life flist?
aredblush: (owl city - blogging)
This is where I apologise for being a not good, very bad flister. I'm kinda swamped by exams and extra, intensive courses and things that don't require using a computer (so I don't even switch it on) and I'll be MIA for pretty much most of February (my last exams is on the 26th). I'll try to keep up with the Doodle Jar, but some doodles may be posted a day late. If I haven't commented/won't comment on your entries, it's because I have no time to browse my friend page, but know that I love you all and I miss you and you are all amazing ♥

I have an hour-long period of free time (gasp!) right now, so I'm going to cram as much stuff as I can into this post. You are free to skip it )

And now, a meme! I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] reni_days

- List 7 habits/quirks/facts.
- Tag 7 people to do the same.
- Don't tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag 'whoever wants to do it'.

1. I am obsessed with bees and I've been since I was a little kid. I love their shape, and the sound they make and their colours. If something has bees on it, I want it. Wasps, though, scare me more than biscuit dolls.

2. I used to be an altar girl and sing in the local church choir. I am agnostic.

3. I drink coffee from 4 different coffee mugs during the day, in a precise order: a large, chipped, bright yellow one at breakfast; a tiny, fat lipped, white one at 10:30; one with coffee beans printed on the outside after lunch; a narrow, pale yellow mug in the afternoon.

4. I am allergic to mint. We found out when I was 5 and mum massaged Vicks VapoRub on my chest to get rid of a strong cough.

5. The first concert I went to see was a Backstreet Boys one when I was 11, but the band I really wanted to see was Hanson.

6. I love letters and I keep every one I receive (I still have the ones my "boyfriend" from kindergarden gave me and they crack me up everytime I read them). My favourite one, though, is the letter my grandpa Polo wrote me for my 17th birthday (just 9 months before he died) and I've never let anyone read it because it's the one thing about him I don't want to share with anyone else.

7. I went to art school and I've never tried weed.

Let's start with a laugh, yes?

*hasn't stopped laughing since this afternoon*

A-hem... So, I've been kinda busy with uni these past two weeks, but since most of my courses ended last Friday, I should be somewhat more active in the future :D (too bad one of those courses was children lit. :[).
Oh. Interesting fact: I found out that History makes me emotional. At first I thought it was only when the prof talked about the Constitution, but then we moved on and started discussing about colonialism and imperialism and the ideology behind them and their consequences and I teared up anyway. I thought I had mastered the I-won't-let-reality-touch-me attitude back in highschool. Apparently, not so much.

On a happier note, I'm starting to get an idea of what I want to do for my thesis \o/ I talked about it with my parents (mum:"Cool! And you could tie that up with this other thing! And also this other one! :DDD"; dad:"Uh. Uh. Here, LET ME GIVE YOU SOME TONS OF MATERIAL YOU CAN WORK WITH!" *drowns me under a pile of meterial*. &them;) and with a friend of ours who is also a professor (her face: :DDD), so I'm kind of not stressed about it as much I thought I would be.

Hey, you want to laugh some more? I found a couple of picture of Lara and I goofing with this year carved pumpkin :D
Our heads are hollow... )

We spent this past weekend helping one of my aunt move. Actually, she moved to the apartament above the one she had been living in till last Sunday (which also happened to be my grandparents' second house. So we had to empty that one first and then bring my aunt's stuff in. It was a sad affair because half of the things there were my grandma's). She lives in Rocca di Papa, a pretty nice place as you can see :) )

Anyway. My plans for next week are: catching up with Merlin (I'm so terribly behind D:), tidy up my [livejournal.com profile] curtainfic prompt and send it over (because you can never send things too early!), draw something to bribe [livejournal.com profile] devilswhore_x with (you have received my email, right?) and come up with something other than housemaid!Brendon/count!Spencer because of course that is not a valid pairing for the Girl Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] rarebandom (do suggest, flist!), buy more yarn, knit more hats, stop listening to Norah Jones on loop (yes, that's a link to dl her latest album), study (ahahahah), tick off some of the things on my to-draw list that keeps getting longer...

In conclusion

I am in love :)
aredblush: (patd / Bden / YMCA)
This seems to be everywhere :)

The problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about one another. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

In other news, I feel like I should print some flyers with the basic steps to ensure nobody dies of asfixiation when attending lectures at uni. Really, is it that difficult to take a shower in the morning? Or wear clothes that don't smell of last week's stale sweat? Or use deodorant? And no, spraying your mom's primrose eau de toilette all over yourself to cover the odour of your hate for everything soap-related is not acceptable >:(

I'm kinda scared by TYV's upcoming album. I like Change better than this new one... and Change's not my cup of tea. I feel like a bad fan :/

I think I've reached my personal lameness record this past weekend. Most 20-somethings would go party, but not me. No. My weekend was spent reorganizing my wardrobe, watching silly cartoons (Kung Fu Panda, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Happy Feet) and crocheting. At least I now have a new hat?

Today, both mum and I were going home at the same time, so I called her and asked if I could hitch a ride on her scooter. She said "Sure baby, but do you have a helmet?" and no, I didn't have one with me, was there a spare helmet over at the shop? Her answer was "Mmmm... I'm sure we can come up with something". The "something" turned out to be an upturned salad bowl covered with a black plastic bag to make it look less like an upturned salad bowl. I wish I had pictures to show you because it was truly hilarious :D &mum'sideas;

So, what's the most hilarious thing you ever did with your mum?
aredblush: (Disney / Cuzcotopia!)
This update is useless, but since I need some time to ponder some more on my 2nd bbb art before starting it, I thought I'd update with various trivial things. Ok? Ok :D

Html fascinates me... )

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] of_silverandsky

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on...

1) What's your biggest pet peeves?

Ignorant people who try to cover their ignorance using big words. That's something I really can't stand.

2) How do you like to spend your weekend if you're home alone?
I either spend it alone, drawing and painting with the music loud enough to cover the phone ringing, or invite my friends over for a two-days movie-marathon.

3) Who's your first celebrity crush? :D
Oh my god... Taylor Hanson. Don't look at me like that! I was 12, ok?

4) What do you plan to do 10 years from now?
I'm planning on being somewhere that is not here. I'd really like to move abroad. Italy started to feel too small when I was still in high school, and I've reached the point where I need to get out of here for small periods of time to be able to "breathe". That's why I travel often and so randomly. So yeah... ten years from now I plan to be on the road.

5) How do you define a friendship?
Tough question. I'm a friendly person, I always was, even if I'm pretty shy, but the people I consider friends are not many. That's probably my fault because what I look for in a friend is their ability to make a connection with me that will bring benefits (I use this word in a figurative way) to both parts. A friend is someone that is both teacher and student, someone that makes your life happier, fuller, richer. It's someone that can make you smile or even laugh when you're alone and cry with no shame when you're not because a friend allows you to be you every moment.
That's not to say that when you become friends with someone you'll be able to be that kind of person for each other right away. For example, I have known my best friend since we were 3 (we attended the same schools until we started high school) and I can say now that she is one of the people in my life that I'd miss even if I hadn't ever met her. We grew up together, we went through some shit together, we didn't spoke for a month and then we forgot why we started the silent treatment, we stayed up till 2 in the morning when we were 10 to play SuperMarioBros and then fell asleep during service in church the next morning (well, she did. I couldn't since I was an altar girl...), we cried/laughed/sang/danced/dressed up/skipped school/mooned over boys together, we did stupid things and we fought to the point of slapping each other. We said things to each other with the specific intent of hurting the other, because if you feel like shit, then she should too (teen angst was a riot). We said things to each other that hurt us to voice aloud but needed to be said anyway, because we are friends and that means that you have the responsibility to be blunt even if the last thing we wanted to do was to cause pain to the other. It wasn't always easy, but we learned and taught at the same time and it's something I'll be forever grateful to her (and to the other people who were and are friends) for, because without her (and them), I wouldn't know now how much a friend can mean, and I couldn't be me every moment.

Uh... sorry for that, I didn't mean to ramble that much. I won't be offended if you skipped it.

So... Who wants me to ask them questions?:)
aredblush: (empires blue)
I've spent this past week blowing my nose and stumbling from one room to another, trying not to bang into door jambs and furniture. Stupid flu is stupid.

Took this from [livejournal.com profile] saba1789

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- What I create will be just for you.
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- You will receive your item before the end of the year (or sooner).
- You will have no clue what the item is going to be. It could be a story or poetry. It could be a piece of handmade jewelry or an art doll. I may draw, paint, collage or knit something. I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to repost this meme and make and send out five surprises of your own.

Ready, set, make! :)

I promise to get rid of all my flu!germs before making you things! I don't want to spread it over international borders

Now, there's a Bandom Kissing Meme here. Those of you who are capable of stringing words together in a way that makes sense should go there and write something (because we all know I better stick to the flail-in-comments side of writing).

I've been so bored this week I ended up playing around with my journal: say "Hi!" to my new layout :)
aredblush: (pic#)
No, really.
I actually spent one hour and a half reading a thesaurus.
I went to the bookshop yesterday because I needed an Italian-Spanish dictionary and an English Thesaurus. I just wanted a pocket one... but then I saw it: Roget's Thesaurus. Burnt orange hard-cover, terracotta-coloured spine, 1232 pages full of English words. It sat there on the shelf near a similar book of quotes (which will be mine in the very near future).
I pratically pounced.
And then I sat on the floor, for an hour and a half, reading it until the clerk asked me if I could move to one of the chairs because I was blocking the aisle.
Seems my book-addiction is degenerating. As is my obsession with English.
