Come gather 'round people
I don't have writer's block (actually, I wrote 652 words of dorky!Darwin fic that I don't hate, so...), but this caught my eyes :)

1. Novecento by A. Baricco
Baricco is pretty much my favourite writer. Novecento is one of my favourite books. You may not have read the novel, but maybe you've watched the movie starring Tim Roth? I've been stalling watching the movie because I love the novel so much that I couldn't stand it if the film were a disappointment. Though, I did listen to the soundtrack (what? It's Morricone's!)
Quote: "It wasn't what I saw that stopped me Max... it was what I didn't see."
2. The Thirteen and a Half Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
I could read this book over and over and over again. It's brilliant, funny, translated beautifully and features a sad Unicorn that writes emo poetry about a sad unicorn!
3. Jonathan Livingstone seagull by R. Bach
I based my final discussion for my highschool degree on this novel :)
4. Captains Courageous by R. Kipling
I read this book when I was in elementary school. It was the book we were supposed to read during the school year, but I liked it so much that I devoured it in a week. I still reread it from time to time.
(here is where I cheat.. don't tell anyone)
5. The Sacrifice Arc by
lightningwave
If you haven't read this series, drop whatever you're doing right now, take a week off work, switch off your mobile phone, disconnect your landline, tell everyone you've left to find yourself in the Himalayan Mountains, the Bermuda Triangle, whatever! Just read it!
It's the most brilliant AU ever written (imo). If you're a HP fan, you should read. If you're not, read it anyway (you don't need to know much about the official HP series because
lightningwave wrote an AU that I think could be published if she just changed the names of the characters. I can't possibly rec this enough. It made me CRY, ok? It's painful and happy and wonderful and please, let it be part of your life.
This past week I went to the cinema twice. On the 8th I went with a friend to celebrate International Women's Day and we watched "I Love Shopping" (she said she really wanted to see it, but if it was too "easy" for me we could choose something else.... I didn't know if should have been offended or not), while on Tuesday Iforcedpolitely asked my sister to come with me to watch "Watchmen". EPIC AWESOMENESS OF AWESOMELY EPIC PROPORTIONS! I loved it to pieces (apart from those scenes on Mars... they looked too much like those forwarded slideshows about the meaning of life and God's project for you and whatnot) and I pretty much fell in love with the soundtrack... which is why I uploaded it here for you ;D
So, today I was surfing the internet, looking for funny tees... and then I found one with THE PANIC BOYS AS GIRAFFES!!!!!. IT SHALL BE MINNNNNNNNNE!!! Either I'll do it myself, or I'll buy it with the money from those tattoos I'm going to do next week.
So, since tomorrow I'll be busy with PACKING MY BAG because I leave Saturday morning for the FOB SHOW IN MILAN, this will be the last post until next Tuesday (when I'll probably get up at noon and then try to write a passable recap of the show with pictures).
See you :)
(OMG! First FOB show in Italy EVER!!! And I'll be there!!!!)

'The Sacrifice Arc', I haven't read this yet. Omg, I can see procrastination heading my way.
And it's H/D :O
I've read many H/D, but I missed this one :O
That t-shirt is so cute!

The Sacrifice Arc was the story that turned me into a bit of a fanfiction elitist.
H/D? You're an H/D fan, too? YESSS! I knew I liked you for a reason!
That series is (imo) the most beautiful H/D ever! I remember that there wasn't a lot of talk about it, which was a total shame, and then suddenly everyone was reccing it. I found it when she was still writing the third book, and she had a daily chapter-update on her lj, so I stayed up till late to read it.
I don't remember who, but someone saved the books as .pdf's and .doc's files... and I was so in love with the series that I saved both versions on a cd so, if you want, I can upload them for you (or try to find the link to the download page again).

I'm going to use this to reward myself for writing x number of words. :D
H/D is one of my main OTPs, I've been shipping them for the past 6 years and I SEE THEM IN EVERYTHING NOW. (probably my obsession with Merlin/Arthur is because of my love for hpdm, they have a lot of stuff in common.)
I've read more hpdm fics than any other ship out there.

Yay for x number of words!
H/D made the world brighter :) I was so obsessed with that pairing! I once saw two guys walking down the street, a brunette and a blond, and they were bantering and then all of sudden the blond one kissed the other and I had to take a picture because OMG THEY EXSIST IN REAL LIFE!!! A-ehm... anyway, H/D ftw!
I did read other ships, but they never caught my attention like H/D did (mostly, I was a sucker for Harry/Luna, but that ship never got much love :( I don't know why, really. I think they'd make such a cute couple, way better than Harry/Ginny imo.)
no subject
*squee* Awesome.
Harry/Luna is ten times better than Harry/Ginny. She didn't do a good job of developing Ginny so I never liked her. Whereas I loved Luna from the start.
But I never managed to be as passionate for ships as I was for H/D. I passed into other fandoms and other ships after the sixth book, but it wasn't the same. And I always come back to H/D.
Merlin/Arthur is giving them some serious competition, but I doubt that they will ever dethrone them. H/D was my first love. ^^)
no subject
H/D was my first love.
Oh god, mine too! I was moving my first steps into fandom at the time, and I stumbled into one of Aya's stories (I don't remember the title, just that at some point they argued about who was really Kaiser Sauze: Verbal or Kobayashi) and I was done. I never looked back. There are so much aspects of their relationship you could analize or show or discuss that it's impossible not to like them.
no subject
*nods* I agree.
Though they're the only ship that motivated me to read and write fanfic in spades since H/D.
I love clashing personalities etc ships. Most of my fav ships have that kind of dynamic or starting point when I think about it.
*oh, pretty memories* Mine was Eclipse by Mijan. Gosh, I love that story so much. If I had time, I would totally re-read it.
I seriously considered printing it all out at one point, but that's a lot of pages.
She had some LJ link at the time, and I clicked and clicked again, from one fanfic to the next, and then it was sort of like Obélix falling into Panoramix's cauldron filled with magic potion and always wanting just one more sip of magic potion, except it was me falling into the delights of slash and especially H/D.
no subject
Oh my god! Eclipse by Mijan was so fucking beautiful! I cried like a baby around the end. Did she ever finish the sequel? I remember she had started one...
I remember hopping from link to link like an Easter bunny on a chocolate high. I kept bookmarking pages because I was afraid I'd lose the link to something I wanted to read (this is why I'm so grateful I discovered del).
Once you have a taste, it's hard to resist... I have to say that I started reading fanfics in English to improve my grasp of the language, but the added bonus of reading about juicy/funny/hot/hurtful/fluffy/cracky/epic stories about two goodlooking blokes was a sweet deal ;)
(this conversation about pretty memories is warming my heart :] )

I remember waiting for the updates so impatiently.
All this fics I lost over the years ;_; because of my crashed comps and all my bookmarks in there. I'm so glad there's del and google bookmarks now. Now I can have them no matter what comp I'm on.
I have a the same language technique. :D A friend is lending me yaoi, but in German, it's such a good excuse to brush up on my German.
(this conversation about pretty memories is warming my heart :] )
Me too!
Ahah, reminds me of my first slash fic. I was trying to find the Harry Potter Puppet Pals with Snape and the song "too sexy for my shirt".
So, all innocently, I google "snape too sexy for my shirt". I FALL ON A HARRY/SNAPE BDSM master/slave fic. Ahaha, eye-opening of my life.
no subject
The only things I can say in German are beer brands....
HARRY/SNAPE BDSM master/slave fic
Oh my... I remember at the beginning there were all these terms I didn't understand the meaning of (BDSM? non-con? dub-con? OOC? UST? WAFF? wtf?!?!?) and had to poke around to know what I was about to read... Not to mention all the name mashing! Snarry? Drarry? Snaco? (or Drape?) Draise? Blarry? Herron? They sounded more like curses than actual info!
no subject
I was so glad for schnoogle's FAQ, they had a lot of things listed for newbies.
I still don't get some of the name mashing o_0 especially when I'm new to a fandom. And sometimes there's so many different variants for one pairing that you don't know what to use.
Or how some people put importance if you say H/D or D/H.

Or how some people put importance if you say H/D or D/H.
This is something I never understood.
no subject
There was a conversation on it once, but I was no closer to understanding it after the convo than I was before reading it. I just came out of it noticing that there was a lot of squeeing depending on how you wrote it. *is still totally clueless*

But since I dislike looking at ships from a primarily uke/seme point of view, I don't get why it's important. I just can't get people squeeing about who is dom and who isn't.
But then, I base characterization on personality and for me sexual position has about the same value as how they take their coffee, it's a personal preference, not a character trait.
Except when it's well developed, like in the movie Secretary, where the dom/sub realtionship is nuanced.
Also, as a straight woman looking at man-man sex, my relationship to sex totally biases how I see their relationship to sex. Biologically, it's always the women who is entered and I hate that the sub always gets feministic characteristics and is the one entered.
[/rambling too much]

Also, Secretary is a great movie! I love that film to pieces.
[/rambling too much]
Please do keep up the rambling. I like characterization discussions :)

but lol the giraffes :'D the grinning one is bden y/y?
no subject
LOL!!! totally! From left to right: Ryan (because he has long legs), Bden (look at that grin!) Spencer (who tries to look normal) and Jon (who's so high he can speak with the bird!)

now I want my own :3

I love the giraffe shirt. I wish it wasn't so expensive.
OMG FOB :D
Have fun at the show!
no subject
It is expensive.... which means that I'm ever so grateful for my painting skills! DIY FTW!
