Title: Surprise
Pairing/Rating: Brendon/Spencer, PG.
Warnings: half-nakedness of the Spencer variety (it's totally something I would want to be warned about).
Disclaimer: We all know that Brendon and Spencer's kitchen does not look like this one...
Notes: Drawn for one of my
help_haiti winners.
saba1789 asked me to draw her the artwork for a ficlet she wrote a while ago. That story is completely adorable and I just hope I did it justice :)

Plus, haha, you actually draw backgrounds! Pretty backgrounds! I salute you, I am too lazy to draw them. ;)

I hate backgrounds with a passion, but everytime I don't draw one I hear my old Art professor in my head screaming "What is this? Why are they floating in blank space? DO THEY LIVE IN THE MATRIX?!" and then I'm like "ok, ok!!! DRAWING BACKGROUND NOW!!!"

And, sweetie, your backgrounds make mine weap, ok? That piece you did for Christmas puts this one to shame!

I'm actually struggling with the backgrounds for the help_haiti pieces at the moment, because I have to draw it all on the same paper. Impossible! I like to experiment and then choose the best results and use the cut-and-glue method.

Usually, I sketch the background quickly, just to get a feel of the space, then I concentrate on the characters and draw them neatly. After that, I work on the actual background. You could always make a collage, though ;)
(I sent my second -and last- haiti piece this morning \o/ It came out supercute and I'm super proud of myself because drawing kisses is effing hard but I did it anyway omg! Do boy-kisses bring the rating up to R? It'd be my first over-PG if it does! *is overly excited*)

Makes sense. I start with the character; first drawing the head, the hair, the face and then sketching as much of the body as it needs. So far I've only drawn backgrounds for the pieces that are for something other than just my own fun, but I'm trying to draw them more this year. Practise makes perfect, they say. You know, the collage idea is actually a good one. I'll have to see if that would work.
That is awesome! \o/ I can't wait to see it!! I guess it depends on the body language and the intensity of the kiss, and if they're fully-clothed or not? YAY all the same!
I'm almost ashamed by how slowly I'm working on mine. But at the same time I know that I'm not the fastest artist anyway, and this is how I usually work when I want the outcome to be extra good, so I'm mostly trying to keep focused without rushing myself too much if that makes sense. (Huh, that last sentence came out oddly corny. I blame exams! *g*) I do have high hopes for sending both pieces out on Thursday though!

I always try to do a very rough skecth that includes anything I want in the picture, and then start the srs bzns drawing. Backgrounds are admittedly the hardest part to work on. I find that drawing a very generic background and adding things in a second moment works best for me. Like, if I were to draw two people in a park, I'd make a sketch featuring two stick figures, some grass and a tree-shaped blob. Then I'd work on turning the stick figures into recognisable people; after that, I'd draw the grass and the tree. At this point, I'd add things like bushes and a monkeyframe in the distance and maybe draw a path in the grass and generally fill the space. This way you can work on the characters without worring about accidentally erasing the details around them, and at the same time, you'll be able to fill the drawing with details without cramming it.
Uh... it's just a close-up onf their faces... no nudity because I'm really uncomfortable drawing that level of intimacy /o\ (my brain is obviously a sad place). I'll have to ask my recipient if she's ok with me showing it on my lj :)
I'm sure you're doing a great job! I can't wait to see yours, too :D
