JK's characters are all well-rounded, they have both merits and flaws, they are not all-good or all-bad. Most of the time she managed to show why a character did a certain thing, explaining the reasoning behind their actions. With Ginny she just portraied what Harry thought of her: at the beginning she was a little girl with a celebrity crush, but he wasn't interested in girls at the time. Then he got a crush on Cho so Ginny flew under the radar. When he finally got to the point of seeing Ginny as a suitable girlfriend, he fell hard for her and so he didn't see any of her flaws (and since the story is from Harry's POV, we didn't see them either). Maybe she gets so much hate because by being flawless, therefore unrealistic, she is the only character in the series no one can relate to. (Did that make sense?)
